Sam, a senior at Otter Valley Union High, won the Vermont Division II cross-country championship for the second consecutive year. He also won the Marble Valley League cross-country title, covering the 3.1-mile course in a record 17:07.

Bill and his twin brother, Bob, senior running backs at Dunmore High, gained 1,198 yards on 138 carries and 1.617 yards on 252 carries, respectively, to lead the Bucks to a 13-0 season and Pennsylvania's Class A Eastern Conference high school football championship. Despite missing two games because of a knee injury. Bill scored 11 touchdowns. Bob scored 26 TDs, including three in the 27-8 championship-game win over West Scranton. As a defensive end. Bob also made 62 solo tackles.

Christie, 11, won the TAC Junior Olympics cross-country nationals in the girls' 10-and-under age group. The fifth-grader ran the 3,000 meters in 12:19.86, in Cincinnati. She has the national age-group records in the 800 (2:29) and 1,500 (5:01).

Patty, a senior center-halfback for the Fox Chapel High girls' soccer team and a two-time high school All-America, scored 58 goals last season to lead the Foxes to a 22-1 record and the Western Pennsylvania championship.

Jones, a sophomore point guard at Lenoir Community College, scored a quadruple double in a 94-84 basketball victory over Pitt Technical, finishing in double figures in points (31), rebounds (12), assists (11) and steals (11).
