Demetrius, 17, a junior at the Providence Health Science and Technology Academy, won the 152-pound title at the 2005 U.S. championships in Colorado Springs on March 19. Demetrius is the top-ranked amateur in his weight class in the U.S.
Jill Stephens
PARKERSBURG, W.VA. > Softball
Jill, a senior righthander at Parkersburg South High, threw her second straight no-hitter on April 6, striking out a state-record 22 in a seven-inning game. (One batter reached first on a dropped third strike.) She has 188 strikeouts in 91 innings this season and a 1.17 ERA.
Robert Rands
BELLEVUE, NEB. > Track and Field
Robert, a senior at Bellevue East High, leaped 25'1/4" at the Dan Lennon Invitational in Vermillion, S.Dak., on his first competitive long jump of the season. The jump broke Nebraska's oldest high school track and field record (24'1/2"), set in 1961 by NFL Hall of Famer Gale Sayers.
Sadie Theriault
JACKMAN, MAINE > Sled Dog Racing
Sadie, a sixth-grader at Forest Hills Middle School, won the world title for ages 12--14 at the International Federation of Sled Dog Sports World Championships in Dawson City, Canada. Sadie, who won seven races this season, is ranked No. 1 in the U.S. for her age group.
Elliot Rushton
DELTA, B.C. > Swimming
Rushton, a senior at Kenyon College, was the NCAA Division III swimming and diving championship's only triple winner, setting meet records in the 500- and 1,650-meter freestyle and winning the 400 IM. He was swimmer of the meet, and the Lords won their 26th consecutive men's title.
Courtnee Hollins
GRANT, LA. > Basketball
Courtnee, a senior guard at Fairview High, was named Miss Basketball by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association. She led the 45--1 Lady Panthers to the Class C title, averaged 29 points and 8.4 rebounds this season and ended her high school career with 4,457 points.
