Ankles of Pursuit
With Vikings defenders flying at him, Packers quarterback Brett Favre turned to self- (and ball-) preservation on Sunday in Green Bay. Upright, he was the one who inflicted pain: Favre completed 33 of 46 passes for 351 yards and three touchdowns in a 34--0 win that ran the Pack's record to 8--1.

Daniela Hantuchova of Slovakia prepared to serve to Maria Sharapova during their WTA round-robin match on Nov. 6 in Madrid. Sharapova won 6--4, 7--5, then lost in the final to Justine Henin.

Flat Out
Attempting to snag a loose ball, Tennessee guard JaJuan Smith took the low road in Knoxville last Friday. Smith finished with 15 points for the No. 7 Volunteers (page 82) in their 80--63 season-opening victory over Temple.
