NOT: CHILLY IN PHILLY
The preseason favorite Eagles are in free fall. Adding insult and injury to their 21--17 loss to Arizona (their fifth L in a game they led in the fourth quarter): DeSean Jackson benched for bad behavior; Jeremy Maclin (below) lost to hurt shoulder.
HOT: BRUINS CRUISE
That 3--7 start? History. Boston had five W's in a row through Monday and last week became just the third team in 17 years to score six or more goals in four straight games. Those 10 points from 19-year-old Tyler Seguin haven't hurt.
NOT: DUST IN THE WIND
Spirits are low in Lawrence, where Kansas is allowing an FBS-worst 44.0 ppg. The Jayhawks might have saved face by snapping a seven-game losing streak last Saturday against No. 25 Baylor but missed a two-point conversion in OT.
HOT: ROGER THAT
Roger Federer finished an otherwise forgettable 2011 season with back-to-back wins—first at the Swiss Indoor, then, last week, at the Paris Masters, where he became just the seventh man to win 800 singles matches.
NOT: STAFFORD INFECTION
Blame Matthew Stafford for Detroit's 1--3 follow-up to a 5--0 start. His rating (down 24 points) and average yardage (down 19) has stunk in the skid. And on Sunday he incited a melee against Chicago by dragging D.J. Moore down by his helmet.
