SPREAD DEFENSE Kings goalie Jonathan Quick ended up on his back and without his stick on one play during Game 4 of the Stanley Cup finals in Los Angeles on June 6. The Devils, down 3--0 in the series due in large part to Quick's shutdown goaltending, won the game 3--1 and then took Game 5 by a score of 2--1 in New Jersey last Saturday. SNAP SHOT Twins first baseman Justin Morneau broke his bat in the seventh inning of an interleague game against the Cubs in Minneapolis last Friday. Morneau's sole hit of the night, a triple in the bottom of the ninth, tied the game at 7, and leftfielder Josh Willingham won it for Minnesota with a walk-off single an inning later.

SQUARING THE CIRCLE U.S. Olympic wrestler Tervel Dlagnev (on top) pinned Eduard Bazrov of Russia 25 seconds into their 264½-pound match last Thursday in New York City's Times Square. In the dual meet between Olympic-caliber wrestlers, the U.S. defeated Russia 4--3.
