FACES IN THE CROWD

Aaron Brooks | Hagerstown, Md. | Wrestling

Aaron, a sophomore at North Hagerstown High, defeated Cole Corrigan of Toms River (N.J.) South High 7--0 in the sophomore 138-pound class for a second straight National High School Coaches Association title in Virginia Beach. In March, Aaron beat Logan McKoy of Oakdale High 3--1 to repeat as 3A-4A state champ, and in two seasons has an 88--2 record.

Ciara Sullivan | Middletown, N.J. | Softball

Ciara, a senior centerfielder at Middletown South High, homered in each of her four at bats (with eight RBIs) in an 18--5 win over Red Bank Catholic High to break the school mark for home runs in a game. Last season she batted .426 with a program-record 18 doubles. Ciara, who will play at Georgetown, was batting .375 through Sunday.

Noah Valencia | Riverside, Calif. | Basketball

Noah, a 6' 1" senior guard at the California School for the Deaf--Riverside was named MVP of the Inland Sport All-Star Classic, scoring 35 points to lead his team to a 136--121 win. The National Deaf Interscholastic Athletic Association's Division I player of the year, he had 71 points—10th most in state history—in a 94--33 defeat of Baker High in December.

Kaela Edwards | Highlands Ranch, Colo. | Track and Field

Edwards, a senior at Oklahoma State, ran the 800 meters in an NCAA-season-leading 2:01.97 to beat indoor and outdoor champion Raevyn Rogers of Oregon by .84 of a second at the Mt. SAC Relays, finishing second to pro Laura Roesler. The reigning NCAA indoor mile champ, Edwards also ran a career-best 4:17.07 in the 1,500, coming in fifth.

David Gomez | Gridley, Calif. | Soccer

David, a senior forward and captain at Gridley High, scored once in a 4--0 win over Corning High to help the Bulldogs repeat as Northern Section--Division II champs. He led the division in goals (32) and assists (17) and was named the Butte View League's offensive MVP for a second straight year. David finished his career with 79 goals and 38 assists.

Lauren Craig | Sacramento | Basketball

Lauren, a 6' 2" senior center at St. Francis Catholic High, had 29 double doubles this season and eclipsed 1,000 career points and rebounds in leading the Troubadours to the CIF Division I championship game (a 64--51 loss to Brea Olinda High). Lauren averaged 16.8 points and 13.4 boards and was named the Delta League player of the year.
