FOR APRIL 11, 2016

I can only guess that by calling baseball "sports' answer to elevator music," you must think it's boring (SCORECARD). But I'd rather watch 300 pitches and 75 plate appearances than an NFL game's 12 minutes of action scattered over three hours any day.

Paul Smith, Highland Park, Ill.

To say that Luke Winn took us inside the ropes of the NCAA championship game would be an understatement (Philadelphia Threedom). We learned how coach Jay Wright had prepared Villanova right down to the final out-of-bounds play. For college basketball junkies the piece was riveting.

Warren H. Eves, Pearl River, La.

Reading about Kris Jenkins's hitting the game-winning three made me think about how proud I'd be to see one of my three young sons do the same. However, in an age when everyone clamors for the spotlight, it would be even better to watch one of them pass up the shot to set up a teammate, as Ryan Arcidiacono did.

Mark Lavold, Wauwatosa, Wis.

Do you really think Draymond Green is the first NBA player to have 1,000 points, 500 rebounds, 500 assists, 100 steals and 100 blocks in a season (SCORECARD)? Maybe since the league made steals and blocks official stats in 1973--74. But I'd bet Oscar Robertson and Wilt Chamberlain did it as well.

Paul Schwartz, Wyckoff, N.J.

SCORECARD

An article by a British rocker would be one I'd normally skip over, but I am glad I didn't. Felix White reminded me why I fell in love with baseball. What got me, and what brought a tear to my eye, was when he wrote about removing his hat for "God Bless America": "I was inside baseball, so I complied." He had become one of us.

POINT AFTER

While Steve Rushin laments spring baseball, my greatest source of displeasure in sports is the music that gets piped into every stadium. I fondly remember the days when I attended sporting events and did not feel as if I were in the front row of a rock concert.

Edina, Minn.
