The Rail McCoy Exaggerator thwarted a Triple Crown bid by prohibitive favorite Nyquist (in purple) with a 3½-length victory at the Preakness Stakes last Saturday. While Kent Desormeaux steered Exaggerator to the inside down the homestretch, throwing mud in the faces of his pursuers, his choice to hug the rail early in the race proved decisive on the rain-soaked track, allowing the dark bay colt to conserve energy, come from 13 lengths back and finish in 1:58.31. Cherry Wine (red cap) came in second and Kentucky Derby winner Nyquist was third.

No Paint, No Gain Raptors point guard Kyle Lowry took a hard shot from Cleveland center Tristan Thompson but still was able to get a shot up—and then make two free throws—during Toronto's 99--84 home victory in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference finals. The loss was the Cavaliers' first in the playoffs after a 10--0 start and cut their lead in the series to 2--1. Lowry, an All-Star, finished with 20 points on 7-of-13 shooting after totaling just 18 in the first two games at Cleveland.
