Cori (Coco) Gauff appeared in FACES IN THE CROWD in June 2017 after winning the Rendez-vous à Roland-Garros, a U.S. junior tournament that offers a chance to play in the junior draw in Paris. A year later Coco, 14, became the fifth-youngest French Open girls' singles champion, defeating Caty McNally (Faces, Sept. 15, 2014) 1--6, 6--3, 7--6 (1). Despite losing in the quarters at Junior Wimbledon last month, the Delray Beach, Fla., native still ascended to the top of the ITF world junior rankings, becoming the youngest player ever to reach No. 1. She'll be a favorite in September's U.S. Open junior tournament, where she reached the final last year (again, as the youngest ever). She's also said she wants to be the next Serena Williams, and the two share something in common—both have trained on the courts at Delray's Pompey Park.
