Astros ace Justin Verlander took it in stride on a recent trip to L.A. when a waiter at The Beverly Hills Hotel slapped his lunch bill with a $1 million surcharge under the description Dodger Killer. After all, the menu's actual prices were equally outrageous: $10 for cranberry juice, $30 for pancakes and $42 for the McCarthy Salad—beets, avocado, bacon, hard-boiled eggs, cheddar cheese, grilled chicken and tomatoes, chopped fine and arranged over iceberg and romaine lettuce with balsamic vinegar. $42? Consider this bill his first loss in SoCal of the year.
