BALTIMORE'S REDHOT BULLET
The Baltimorebullets of the National Basketball Association were in trouble last week.Firmly mired in the cellar of the eastern division, the fizzling Bullets werealso in dire need of some financial priming. Civic angels worked feverishly toraise the $100,000 necessary to rescue the Bullets from extinction. For theirmoney the angels would receive only two real assets: the franchise and ared-hot rookie guard named Frank Selvy.
Small in staturefor pro basketball (6 ft. 3 in.), Frank Selvy attended Furman University inSouth Carolina. Playing against some of the nation's top teams he smashedalmost every collegiate scoring record in the books—free throws, total pointsand average—in a three-year career. Drafted by Baltimore for the 1954 season,Rookie Selvy quickly showed he could hold his own against the pros, last weekled the league in scoring with 277 points.
