
COURT STARS OF THE '80s
The dressy players below were dominant figures in the early days of lawn tennis in this country. Richard Dudley Sears (upper left), uncle of the famous Boston sportswoman, Eleanora Sears, was first national singles champion. He held the title from 1881 through 1887—and won the doubles title six times, five of them with Dr. Dwight.
