THE WONDERFUL WORLD OF SPORT
THE BLUE STREAK FINISH
Records fall when Dave Sime, the Duke Blue Devil, laces his track shoes. One week, the 220-yard low hurdles; next, the 220-yard dash
A VERY DAMP SPRING
It was late coming, but spring finally arrived. On the sun-washed Potomac, oarsmen bent to their tasks (see page 49). In Oxford, they went punting, while in Omaha some students struggled in the mud
Muddy good time is had in tug of war between students at Creighton University High School in Omaha. Youngsters annually rid themselves of that old spring feeling by staging an Olympic Day. Other events included backward, chariot races.
Ruddy good jump is made by Judy Wright, pretty Oxford baton, leaping from punt to punt during Oxford-Cambridge relay race on the Cherwell. Her Cambridge counterpart was equally agile, so the Cantabs went one up in 5-year-old race.
SELF-GOLFING GOLF BAG
Awed by the extent and versatility of golfing gadgets he saw on an extensive tour of U.S. courses, Punch Cartoonist Rowland Emett was inspired to design "The Cypress Point improved self-golfing Golf Bag" and send a drawing of it to SI's golf-minded editors. Says Emett: "Having observed, at Pebble Beach and Cypress Point, the wonderful degree of mechanization brought to bear upon the science which is golf, I feel emboldened to put respectfully forward the above aid, which is designed to reduce the unpredictable human element to an absolute minimum."
