COVER: YALE BULLDOG
Photograph by Jerry Cooke
The first football mascot, so far as anyone can now recall, was Handsome Dan, a bulldog who belonged to a member of the Yale class of 1892. The present Handsome Dan, pictured on this week's cover, is the ninth in a long succession and, like the "wishbone" on the cheerleaders' megaphones, he is a symbol of Ivy football. For news of the Yale team and color pictures of a Yale football weekend, turn to page 20.
