STEELHEAD: WASHINGTON: Wild chinook wind and warm rain brought water level up and prospect of glut of fish when rivers settle. FF at present, with new runs entering Skagit where O ought to be G above Lyman. OG on Humptulips for boaters drifting from Upper West Fork. Green, Snoqualmie, Skykomish, Puyallup producing on cherry bobbers, yarn and eggs. Anglers advised to check rules pamphlet as SC on some streams Feb. 28.
OREGON: SC Feb. 28 for coastal waters. Alsea and Wilson rivers remain open until March 17, but OP there. Zone 2 streams also open. Clackamas and Sandy rivers best bets, but waters R and D from rain and snow runoff. O/FG on small creeks, larger rivers doubtful unless rain and runoff cease.
PACIFIC SALMON: WASHINGTON: Black-mouth moving in San Juan waters, but gale winds keep fishermen ashore. Pre-blow hot spots were channel between Anacortes and Guemes Island, Obstruction Pass off Orcas. Tacoman reports blackmouth running to 14 pounds in Sinclair Inlet. Weather prevents fishing Points Evans and Defiance, but OG. Herring moochers having best luck on big fish, hardware bringing in immatures.
CALIFORNIA: FVG south of Bodega Bay as SO with easy limits for party and private boats trolling popular waters from Golden Gate to Monterey Bay. Prime spots four miles off slide halfway between Capitola and Moss Landing and between Lightship and Duxbury Reef. OG despite general rain.
BLACK BASS: FLORIDA: Lakeland informant reports 173½-pounder caught by James Davis, Howey, while angling with live shiner in pond west of Little Lake Harris. Northwest state expects spawning runs in near future, with OG in Tallahassee area.
BONEFISH: BAHAMAS: All points reporting individual catches of 12 to 20 fish per day per rod. Philip Elgart, Brooklyn, boated three Junkers in four-day bag of 31 fish on spinning tackle off Green Turtle Cay. Heaviest weighed 11½ pounds. OVG.
FLORIDA: FF, what with recent winds, but barometer expected to rise, winds to drop.
STRIPED BASS: CALIFORNIA: FG in Lower Delta. Frank's Tract still fine, but main run seems to have moved up Sacramento to Rio Vista section and San Joaquin to Venice Island. Ted Calixtro of Isleton took week's best out of Sacramento—a 43-pounder.
NEW JERSEY: SO March 1 with spots to watch deep hole opposite golf course at Toms River, Travelling Point south of Tuckerton on Great Bay and Great Egg Harbor. O uncertain depending upon rate of up-coast travel of heavy concentration in Delaware Bay.
NORTH CAROLINA: OG in fresh and brackish water in northeastern section of state. If springlike weather continues surf should start yielding from Hatteras to Nags Head.
