Mary Ann Mobley, 20, pretty University of Mississippi junior, has good reason to be shiny-eyed after being crowned Miss Football of 1957 at Berkeley, Calif. Her first duty: to reign over festivities at California-Southern Methodist game last Saturday.

Herb Dudley, rubber-armed 37-year-old schoolteacher, pitched Clearwater (Fla.) Bombers to 18-inning 1-0 triumph over Aurora, Ill. for world soft-ball title, gratefully led 7,000 fans in prayer after he was named most valuable player, at Clearwater.

Henry Laskau, bow-legged 41-year-old U.S. Olympic walker who heeled and toed his way to 43 U.S. titles, competed for last time at Tel Aviv, where he won 3,000-meter Maccabiah gold medal for third time, announced his retirement from the sport.

Johnny Dieckman, 30, skillful professional angler from San Francisco, was one of two Americans to win three titles in world bait and fly-casting championships held at Kiel, Germany. The other: U.S. all-round champion Jon Tarantino of San Francisco.
