THE BACKFIELD
Speed and experience are its prime assets. It may break loose on any play—either around the ends on quick pitchouts or on passes, but it is too small for real power.

Tom Forrestal (5 ft. 11 in., 178 lbs.) from Cleveland. His brilliant throwing puts him ninth best passer in the country. A fine ball handler and wily play-caller who comes up with unexpected.

Ned Oldham (5 ft. 10 in., 182 lbs.) from Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. Team captain and best all-round back on squad. On defense is quick to come up short from secondary, so sometimes vulnerable on long passes. Plenty fast around end, sound pass receiver.

Harry Hurst (6 ft., 181 lbs.) from Paulsboro, N.J. Fastest man in backfield, is especially effective on quick pitch from quarterback on wide end run. On defense is alert and aggressive.

Ray Wellborn (6 ft. 1 in., 183 lbs.) from Houston. Came off bench to replace injured Dick Dagampat, now has job permanently. He is light for fullback but his speed makes up for lack of heft. A very hard runner and a fine receiver.

Al Swanson (6 ft., 190 lbs.) from West Orange, N.J. Converted from halfback to fullback for this game to alternate with Wellborn. Good punter, plodding runner.
THE LINE
Navy's line is one of the quickest and smartest in football, thus making up for what it lacks in size. It moves well laterally, is hard to trap and may be deciding factor against Army's ground power. Question: Is it big and strong enough? Reserves are well above average, so the fresh troops may wear Army down.

Pete Jokanovich (5 ft. 11 in., 207 lbs.) from Los Angeles. Excellent end both ways, offsetting lack of height with great hustle. Is Navy's favorite pass receiver. On defense he reacts very well to wide stuff, will be tough to circle. He is one of the hardest tacklers on the team.

Tony Anthony (5 ft. 11 in., 219 lbs.) from Erie, Pa. A good, steady lineman, but not in the same class with Reifsnyder or Stremic. Not active enough to cover all his territory well but hard to trap. Good pursuit for his size. He has shown great improvement over last year.

Tony Stremic (5 ft. 11 in., 204 lbs.) from Glenside, Pa. Truly big-league guard, very strong blocker, with no apparent weaknesses. He not only covers his own territory exceptionally well, but often will move over to either side to help on the tackle.

Milan Moncilovich (5 ft. 11 in., 191 lbs.) from Steubenville, Ohio. Brought up from second team at midseason when Reifsnyder was switched back to tackle. Plays the position well, but not as well as Army's Kernan. He has improved tremendously since the Notre Dame game.

George Fritzinger (5ft. 10 in., 200 lbs.) from Wilkes-Barre, Pa. Big, fast, pulls out well to lead on screens. Plays linebacker on defense. Will shoot the gap. Hard to go around or over.

Bob Reifsnyder (6 ft. 2 in., 235 lbs.) from Rockville Centre, N.Y. All-America candidate, biggest man on squad. Vicious tackler, especially strong on covering to inside. Sometimes gets overanxious and can be trapped. He will often make the spectacular play, but frequently this is because he is playing where he shouldn't be. He does most of Navy's place-kicking.

Wayne McKee (6 ft. 1 in., 194 lbs.) from Pittsburgh. Better defensive than offensive end. Is hard to get outside and almost always plays to contain. Will not get as many passes as Jokanovich. He has a habit of missing the easy ones and catching those five feet over his head. Dangerous runner once he gets under way.
