HAND-TO-HAND COMBAT

Author:

Navy's defense was prepared for just about anything Army might throw at it last Saturday—except a right to the jaw. Net result was that the Middies yielded a tooth—Tackle Reifsnyder's—but no touchdowns to Army's offense and won Cotton Bowl bid with a 14-0 victory

Navy's one-man offense, Ned Oldham (in light uniform) plunges for the first of his two touchdowns after miraculously exploding from a horde of Army tacklers who seemingly had stopped him. Army's Charles Lytle (60) and Fred Wilmoth (76) pursue in vain.

ARMY TACKLE BILL MELNIK (72) POUNDS DOWNED NAVY TACKLE BOB REIFSNYDER (FIG. 1) UNTIL REF ALBIE BOOTH BREAKS IT UP (2) VETERAN ALBIE, USING LEG DRIVE, GROUNDS MELNIK (3) AND GESTURES HIM OUT OF THE GAME (4); REIFSNYDER WAS ALSO BANISHED
