Detroit Tiger Jim Bunning inflicted on Boston the first no-hit game of 1958, and the 100th in 20th century major league history. The superstition about making no reference to the performance while in progress was not respected by the Associated Press, which enterprisingly alerted editors everywhere from the sixth inning on (see above).
