Barbara McIntire, pretty 23-year-old Jupiter, Fla. golfer, covered last eight holes of women's Western Amateur 2 under par, was able to beat Medalist Ann Quast 2 and 1 in 36-hole final at Chicago tournament.

Clayton Ewing, skipper of yawl Dyna, showed craft's stern to 78 other yachts in 333-mile Chicago-to-Mackinac race, won 51-year-old classic for second straight year. Dyna won Port Huron-to-Mackinac week before.

Judy Grinham, British Olympic swimming titleholder, sliced pool at Cardiff's Empire Games to set new world record for 110-yard backstroke. Her time, 1:11.9, also broke unofficial mark set night before.

A/3c Risto Pyykko, Finnish-born New Yorker, gathered 21 points in Air Force's world-wide swimming championships, was top man after winning 100-meter freestyle, butterfly and 400-meter medley.

Hugh Wiley, of Towson, Md., won the King George V Gold Cup in the premier event of London's International Horse Show with a faultless ride on Master William. The Queen Mother presented the gold trophy to Wiley.

Nancy Richey, 15, dominated Western Junior tennis tournament, Dayton, Ohio, dropped the defending champion, Sue Hodgman 6-1, 6-2. Daughter of Rice Coach George Richey, she has been playing eight years.

Bruce Castator, despite sparkling chip shots by Eric Hanson, held on to two-hole advantage, won the fifty-fourth Canadian Amateur golf championship in Toronto. Bob Brue, American threat, lost in semifinals.
