BOATING—BENJAMIN B. DUPONT, Pine Orchard, Conn., skippered yawl Rhubarb to victory in 184-mile Miami-to-Nassau yacht race. Runner-up: Bus Mosbacher, White Plains, N. Y., in yawl Callooh. Three days later Mosbacher sailed Callooh to victory in 30-mile Nassau Cup race.

George Taylor, Orlando, Fla., set new record for class A hydros in Orange Cup regatta, Lakeland, Fla., with run of 69.040 mph. Other records set: Dave Christner, Quincy, Ill., class B, 65.265 mph; Skip Ritter, Hallandale, Fla., class C stock, 57.952 mph; F. C. Moor, Miami, 48-cubic-inch inboard hydro, 71.485 mph.

BOBSLEDDING—EUGENIO MONTI and RENZO ALVERA, Italy, two-man world championship, with 5:23.86 aggregate for four runs down mile-long course. Art Tyler, Weston, Mass., and Lieut. Tom Butler, Vista, Calif., were third with 5:24.62.

BOXING—ROY HARRIS, 5-round decision over John Hunt, heavyweights. El Paso, Texas. (Scheduled 10-round fight stopped by timekeeper without authority after 5th-round knockdown.)

Del Flanagan, 10-round split decision over Ralph Dupas, welterweights, St. Paul, Minn.

CRICKET—AUSTRALIA over England for "The Ashes" and world supremacy, Adelaide (see page 34).

FIGURE SKATING—CAROL HEISS, North American Women's Championship, for second straight time, Toronto. DON JACKSON, Canadian champion, won men's division.

FOOTBALL—EARL BLAIK, retired Army coach, appointed vice-president of Avco Manufacturing Co. TERRY BRENNAN, deposed Notre Dame coach, appointed to Cincinnati Redlegs staff to help condition baseball club in spring training. Brennan also announced plans to join Chicago office of Goldman, Sachs & Company, investment banking firm.

GOLF—GENE LITTLER, San Diego, $17,500 Phoenix Open, with 268 for 72 holes. Runner-up: Art Wall, Pocono Manor, Pa., with 269.

TRACK & FIELD—MEL BARNWELL, 20, University of Pittsburgh, 300-yard run in 30 seconds for world indoor record.

MILEPOSTS—DIED: NAPOLEON LAJOIE, 83, longtime second baseman who played variously with the Philadelphia Nationals, Philadelphia Athletics and Cleveland, and in 1937 became charter member of baseball's Hall of Fame; of pneumonia; in Daytona Beach, Fla. In 1901 Lajoie won the American League's first batting championship with an average of .422, which still stands as the league record.

DIED: RAY KILGORE, 46, three cushion billiards champion who won title in 1953, a year after Willie Hoppe retired; after a long illness; in Culver City, Calif. Kilgore's death followed Hoppe's by three days.
