Louis Manuel Rodriquez, unbeaten Cuban welterweight, punished ex-Champion Virgil Akins, won 10-round decision, Miami Beach.

Florentino Fernandez, another invading Cuban welterweight, scored 7-round TKO over Stefan Redl, New York.

GOLF—DOUG FORD, Paradise, Fla., came in with last-round 70 for 276 total to win Canadian Open by two strokes for first victory of year, Montreal.

MILEPOSTS—RETIRED: CARL ERSKINE, 32, crafty little Dodger right hander who pitched two no-hitters, once struck out 14 Yankees for World Series record and won 122, lost 78, but of late has been forced to rely on junk instead of crackling curve and buzzing fast ball; called it quits just 28 days short of becoming 10-year man, at Los Angeles. Muddling about with 0-3 record, Erskine decided he "can't give 100% any more," sadly observed: "When your time comes, the decision is not too hard to make. You know what's right."
