MILEPOSTS—DIED: FRED EGAN, 80, harness driver and dean of harness trainers, at Orlando, Fla. During his career Egan won nearly every top harness stakes race. He look Hambletonian twice, in 1940 behind Spencer Scott, in 1949 behind Miss Tilly, trained Emily's Pride, one of trotting's greatest money-winers, who won Hambletonian in 1958.

DIED: DOROTHEA KATHARINE CHAMBERS, 81, seven times Wimbledon tennis champion, in London. She won her first Wimbledon title in 1903, from 1903 to 1914, never lost to an English player, earned an Olympic Gold Medal (1908), set record of seven Wimbledon singles victories, which stood until America's Helen Wills Moody took title for eighth time in 1938.
