MILEPOSTS: DIED—HARRY BLANCHARD, 30, auto race driver and car dealer from Greenwich, Conn., in first lap of 1,000-kilometer Buenos Aires sports car race. Blanchard, a leading eastern U.S. driver, was killed when his Porsche brushed another car, flipped over three times and crashed into the side of the autodrome.

DIED—MRS. DANIEL M. CASEY, 96, widow of Philadelphia Phillies pitcher who inspired Sportswriter Ernest L. Thayer's oft-recited Casey at the Bat, in Washington. Mrs. Casey's husband, as the story goes, precipitated all that gloom in Mudville when, in game against New York in 1887, he struck out with bases loaded and two out in the ninth.
