Barbara Fitton, 26-year-old junior high school teacher of physical education from Hamilton, Ohio, upset Veteran Golfer Mary Ann Downey of Baltimore 1 up in seesaw match for Palm Beach, Fla. championship.

Hayes Jones scored never-before-achieved double in Philadelphia track meet: victory in the 50-yard high hurdles and 50-yard dash. Next night in New York he doubled again in 60-yard high hurdles, 60-yard dash.

Mrs. Gustava A. Schirmer of Greenwich, Conn. took top honors with Albert J. Beveridge Jr. of Fort Lauderdale, Fla. in Silver Sailfish Derby at Delray Beach, Fla. Each caught and released 44 sailfish.

Jack Smith of Atlanta pushed his 1960 Pontiac around Daytona Beach's 2½-mile International Speedway at average speed of 146.-580 mph, set world record for stock racing cars in close 100-mile race.

Bruce McLaren, 22-year-old New Zealand auto racer, who won last December's Sebring. Fla. Grand Prix, zipped his Cooper Climax to victory in 195-mile Argentine Grand Prix with an average speed of 84.61 mph.

Mrs. C. C. Venable of Atlanta, after seeing her family's Pekingese take best-in-show at Westminster show in New York (see page 16), announced dog's retirement. Said Mrs. Venable, "Now he'll be able to live like a dog."

Florence Nagel of Westerlands, Sussex, England, saw her 17-month-old Irish wolfhound Sulhamstead Merman win best-in-show at British equivalent of the Westminster, Cruft's Dog Show in London.
