FACES IN THE CROWD

Julio Muller, riding No. 2 for Milwaukee Polo Club, stroked seven goals to pace all scorers as Milwaukee won the National Open polo title at Hinsdale, Ill. Milwaukee led all the way in beating the Beaver Ridge Farm quartet of Detroit 13-9 in the final.

Linda Pool, 17, of Miami, put her hair up in curlers and took down the women's title in state small-bore rifle championships at Winter Haven, Fla. She also won place on Florida "men's" team that will compete in the 1962 national championships at Camp Perry, Ohio.

Stan Matthews Jr., whose father at the age of 46 is still one of England's finest soccer players, won the junior British tennis championship in boys' singles for the second straight year, beat Keith Woolridge of Staffordshire in straight sets at Wimbledon.

Tom Allen of Buffalo, sailing a boat he built himself, won the international Lightning-class sailing championship at Milford, Conn. Allen had two firsts and three seconds for 167½ point total, 11½ points better than runner-up Jorge A. Salas-Chavezof Buenos Aires.

Bill Buchan, 26, of Seattle, became the 39th world champion Star-class sailor by beating former champion Lowell North of San Diego for first place by 12 seconds in the final race at San Diego. Buchan took four firsts and a sixth in the five-race series.

Bruce McGehe of Manhattan (Kans.) High School scored the only touchdown when Manhattan beat Lawrence (Kans.) High School 7-0, thus ending Lawrence's 47-game winning streak. It was the first time Lawrence had been shut out in 181 games.
