FACES IN THE CROWD

Tommy Ford, 7-year-old son of New York Yankee Pitcher Whitey Ford, winner of the 1961 Cy Young award, added to the family's prizes with a first-place finish in Pee Wee division at the Tri-State indoor speed-skating competition at Grossinger, N.Y.

Abdon Pamich, 28-year-old Genoa, Italy refinery worker, walked 50 kilometers (31 miles 120.6 yards) in 4 hours 14 minutes 4 seconds, broke the listed world mark, at Rome's Olympic Stadium. Pamich won the bronze medal for the same event in the 1960 Olympics.

Neal Ormond, Yale U. senior from Aurora, Ill., scored three times in touch football game against Harvard in the sport's only recognized intercollegiate match. The victory gave the Elis the unofficial national title and their first win over the Cantabs in six years.

Nelson Guthrie, a 158-pound halfback from Winston-Salem (N.C.) Teachers College, set a record for rushing in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association. Guthrie's 1,076 yards topped the mark of Johnny Sample of Maryland State, now with the Steelers.

Barbara Williams, 13-year-old daughter of baseball's Ted Williams, a noted fisherman as well as the game's last .400 hitter, went fishing with her dad off the Florida Keys, came back with five bonefish. Included in Barbara's catch was a fine eight-pounder.

Tom Mcquaid, 49-year-old coach of basketball at Beaufort (N.C.) H.S., led his school (enrollment: 300) to its 88th straight victory, broke the state record for consecutive wins, moved closer to his fourth state title in a row in his 25th year in coaching.
