FACES IN THE CROWD

Sandra Knott, 24, of Columbus, Ohio, won 880-yard run in 2:17.4 in track meet at Cleveland to clip one-tenth of a second off pending women's world record, emulated recent record-breaking performance by her sister Suzanne, who ran the 440 event in 58.2.

Gene Davis, a junior at Missoula County (Mont.) H.S., was named outstanding wrestler at this year's state high school tournament. Over three years Davis is undefeated in 47 matches, was three times state champion at three different weights.

Cathy Nagel, 13, of Skykomish, Wash. won ladies' downhill race in the Junior National Alpine Ski championships at Whitefish, Mont. by completing 4,500-foot course in 1:26.8. Sandy Bower of Auburn, Me. completed the course in 1:28, finished in second place.

Nate Branch, junior at Ravenswood H.S. in East Palo Alto, Calif., scored with seconds to play in fifth overtime in finals of northern California basketball championships, gave Ravenswood a 60-58 win in longest title game ever played in northern California.

Anne Rogers of Mahopac, N.Y., a professional dog handler, guided Mary S. Brewster's Ch. Edward's Reddy Career, a three-pound, orange-colored Pomeranian, to impressive best-in-show wins on consecutive nights at shows in Harrisburg, Pa., Washington, D.C.

Roy Saari, senior at El Segundo (Calif.) H.S., set new American record in winning the 1,500-meter freestyle in 17:23.4 in the Southern Pacific AAU swim championships at Los Angeles, defeated Australia's John Konrads —the world record holder—by full 30 yards.
