Al Lopez Jr., the son of the Chicago White Sox manager, is following in his father's spiked footsteps. The center fielder for the University of Florida baseball team, champions of their division, hit .310 in 33 games, scored 30 runs, drove in 13 and stole 20 bases.

Frank Chiodi, a construction worker in Bridgeport, Conn., who had to stop bowling for a year because of a heel injury, entered the national duckpin championships and won the men's singles title with a 450 total for three games, six pins ahead of runner-up Don Norton.
