FACES IN THE CROWD

Nancy Davis, 20, a sophomore al Pasadena City College who was faced with the unusual choice (to fulfill a gym assignment) of doing a book report or trying out for queen of Pasadena's Tournament of Roses, picked the latter, and won, presumably earning an A plus.

Ed Simonich, for five years the football coach at Montana School of Mines in Butte, where he has had to play in practice sessions himself because of limited turnouts, outlasted "a nine-year 44-game losing streak and finally saw his team win—33-7 over Northern Montana.

Adele Boyd, 30, was elected captain of the U.S. Field Hockey Team that was selected at the 37th national tournament in Delaware, Ohio. A fullback on the U.S. squad for the past four years, she is a teacher at Cheltenham High School in Wyncote, Pa.

Vance Anderson, 30-year-old Las Vegas hairstylist, outdrew 192 starters in the National Open Fast Draw championships in Las Vegas. Anderson twice equaled the tournament's fastest time in the draw-and-fire-while-walking category, a wink-quick .31 of a second.

Roland J. Daigle, 39, of San Marcos, Texas, who has two football-playing sons, entered Southwest Texas State College after retiring from the Army and became a reserve fullback on the varsity. He played in three games before being side-lined by a broken rib.

Gordon Prichett, goalie for the Williams College soccer team that went undefeated this season, allowed the opposition to score only nine times. He helped Williams win the Sampson Cup, New England's top collegiate soccer trophy, for the second straight year.
