FACES IN THE CROWD

Calvin L. Stinson Sr., 71, the sardine king of Prospect Harbor, Me., took up trap shooting at 55, soon afterward became Maine state champion. Ever since then, the championship has been a family affair with Calvin Sr. winning six titles, Calvin Jr., nine.

Jane (Peaches) Bartkowicz, 14-year-old Hamtramck, Mich, ace, added another tennis trophy to her overloaded shelf when she won the National Girls' 16-and-under title. Recently, she trounced her own age group in a second straight 14-and-under title.

Richard Farmer, 14, of Port Washington, N.Y. and the Knickerbocker Yacht Club skippered his Blue Jay, Dynamite, to five victories and one second place to sail off with the Commodore's Cup—awarded to the out-standing junior sailor at Larchmont Race Week.

Robert Andre, 20, of San Diego, runner-up in the 1962 Finn Nationals, strapped his boat on a Volkswagen to wander through Europe as a boat racer and journeyman sailmaker. At Helsinki he won the Nordic Finn title, hopes next to annex the world championship.

Tom Hyndman, 17, of Huntingdon Valley, Pa. teamed with his dad (a recent Walker Cupper) to eliminate two former national champions in the quarterfinals and win the Anderson best-ball golf tournament. Tom's older brother did the same trick in 1961.

Mrs. Virginia Britt, of Fort Lauderdale, Fla. flew a Piper Cherokee PA-28 2,500 miles from Bakersfield, Calif. to Atlantic City at an average speed of 138.02 knots, to defeat 44 others and win the 17th annual Powder Puff Derby for female flyers.
