FACES IN THE CROWD

Wen-An Sun, 10, of Ames, Iowa, who has figure skated only two years, won three events in the Southwestern championships in Omaha. She took the juvenile girls' title, then teamed with her brother Torrey, 12, to gain the junior pairs and bronze dance titles.

Jerry Sharman, 17, a 6-foot-3 senior at Charter Oak High in Covina, Calif. who learned some basketball from his father Bill (ex-NBA All-Star), scored a record 43 points in a 72-69 win over Upland High in the Montclair Upland tournament.

Nancy Kneeland, 19, of San Marino, Calif., a pert, green-eyed business administration major at Pasadena (Calif.) College who likes to play tennis, sail and hunt, was elected queen of the 1964 Tournament of Roses from among 250 contestants.

Edward Brown coached the Hopkins Grammar School's junior school football team in New Haven to an 11-1 record the past three years. What's more, the last two seasons his boys were unbeaten, untied and un-scored on, while averaging 40 points a game.

Bruno Hermanny of Rio de Janeiro, who won the world underwater fishing championship three years ago in Italy, successfully defended his title in Rio's Guanabara Bay against competitors from 13 other countries by spearing 69 fish (234 pounds).

Arthur B. Mark Jr. of Chicago, a West Point second classman, was overall champion in the City Hall-to-Coney Island handicap walking race in New York City, with a net time of 1:23:14 (including a nine-minute handicap) for the 10½-mile course.
