FACES IN THE CROWD

Bill Bybee, an eighth-grader from Long Beach, Calif., bowled a 300 game in a Youth Bowling Association tournament, thereby becoming the youngest person ever to roll a perfect game in league play. He had warmed up with scores of 235, 178, 225 and 174.

Danny Cornett, 17, a guard on Breckinridge (Ky.) Training School's basketball team, scored 87 points (on 36 field goals and 15 free throws)—the second-highest total ever by a Kentucky prep player—in leading his school to a 111-57 win over Carter High.

David Pietsch, Honolulu businessman and deep-sea angler, topped 34 finalists to win Hawaii's state cribbage singles championship. He defeated Joe Murphy of Honolulu 6-2, then paired with Jack Guard of the Honolulu Pacific Club to win the club doubles title.

Tony Medeiros, 51, of Lowell, Mass., a distance runner for 30 years, changed pace to win New York's 10½-mile City Hall-to-Coney Island Handicap Walk in 1:58.01. In making his heel-and-toe debut he beat the Army's Lieut. Ron Zinn, 25, an Olympic walker.

Tony Lewis, a junior from Dayton's Wilbur Wright High, won All-City honors by averaging seven yards a carry, gaining 1,430 yards and scoring 122 points. He set single-game records of 336 and 376 yards and in the latter game also scored 38 of his team's 48 points.

Roy Miller, a 17-year-old center forward and captain for Eastern Lebanon County (Pa.) High School's outstanding soccer team, ended his four-year prep career with a total of 80 goals scored, having led his team to a record of 54 wins, 8 losses, 3 ties.
