FACES IN THE CROWD

Lena Alberta, 74, retired hairdresser from Riviera Beach, Fla. who began golfing five years ago and has never had a lesson, made her second hole in one within two months on the 131-yard, par-3, 5th hole of the Belvedere Country Club course in West Palm Beach.

Charles Raehm and his Utica No. 2 rink won the Mitchell Medal in the Utica (N.Y.) Curling Club International Bonspiel. Raehm has curled four years. "It takes loads of practice to get the feel of the stones," he says, "when to sweep and when not to sweep."

Sharon Bates, 17, of Montclair, Calif., 5 feet tall and 97 pounds, won the senior ladies' title in the Pacific Coast Figure Skating championships in Seattle. She had all five firsts in the free skating and four out of five firsts plus a second in the school figures.

Tom (The Stick) Lick, Gaylord (Mich.) High senior, who at 6 feet 11 is the tallest prep basketball player in the state, scored 40 points and pulled down 33 rebounds while playing only three quarters in Gaylord's 85-36 victory over Houghton Lake High School.

Gillian Perrin, 14, of Banstead, Surrey, won both the under-18 title and, for the third time, the under-15 title in the All-England Badminton championships at the Wimbledon Squash and Badminton Club. She is the youngest player to win either event.

Jack Fisher, who launched the swimming team at East Aurora (N.Y.) High eight years ago, coached it to seven division championships, celebrated his 100th win and 73rd straight dual-meet victory when East Aurora beat Depew High in the season's first meet.
