Penelope Hahn, 16, of Westbrook, Me., who has held the northeastern junior girls' rifle championship for three years running, swept all of the women's events at the NRA's Northeast sectional championships at Cumberland, Me., the first senior event she ever entered.
Isiah King, a senior at New Orleans' St. Augustine High School, set two new city basketball marks when he scored 64 points and grabbed 26 rebounds in a 122-64 victory over Walter L. Cohen High. The game, last of the regular season, gave the team a 30-0 record.
Archie Taylor, a Myrtle Beach, S.C. laundry operator, caught a 75-pound channel bass off Murrell's Inlet, S.C. on 20-pound test line—a record. The fish was 31½ inches in girth and 4 feet 5 inches in length; it outweighed the former record by 13 pounds.
Joyce Davenport, 23, of Ardmore, Pa., who put herself on a two-month crash training program after four ears of no squash at all, won the U.S. Women's Squash Racquets Championship at the Philadelphia Country Club, defeating Mrs. Mason Stauffer.
William Morton, 198-pound wrestler at Greenwich (Conn.) High School, won the Connecticut heavyweight division championship by defeating 285-pound Fred Cesana of Glastonbury High, 3-2. It was Morton's 32nd victory without a loss over two seasons.
Dr. John Kneipp, 50, a Washington, D.C., psychiatrist riding the Virginia Point-to-Point circuit for the first time, guided his 7-year-old bay gelding, Chiron, a former flat racer turned jumper, to three consecutive victories in the circuit's first three races.
