FACES IN THE CROWD

Dave Padgett of Punahou School became the first prep swimmer in Hawaii to break 50 seconds in the 100-yard freestyle with a 49.5 clocking at the Hawaii AAU indoor championships. The time, a second below the old mark, placed him second nationally.

Jacqueline Lyle, 18, won her fifth solo title at the Iowa synchronized swimming championships in Des Moines. In national competition she made the AAU finals twice and will try again this month. Also a good golfer, she plans a P.E. major at Drake.

John Parks, St. Mark's (South borough, Mass.) senior, finished his four-year prep wrestling career with a 41-3-2 record. In addition, he captained the team two years, won nine varsity letters and was elected to the Cum Laude Society for academic achievement.

Lynn Graham, 17, a student at John Muir High in Pasadena, Calif., who has an American record of 51 feet 5 inches pending in the women's shotput, won her event at an international dual meet at Wembley Stadium, London, with a toss of 49 feet 7 inches.

Richie Jordan, 5-foot-7 guard from Fennville, Mich., ended his spectacular high school basketball career with a 60-point game in Michigan's Class C tournament. His regular season point total—888 in 20 games for 44.4 average—was a state record.

Bill Kund, a student at Los Angeles City College and a member of the U.S. cycling team at the Tokyo Olympics, set a U.S. 25-mile time-trial record of 58 minutes 5 seconds over a 12½-mile course in Riverside, Calif. Kund has been racing only three years.
