FACES IN THE CROWD

Deidre Anne Watkinson, a WREN petty officer attached to HMS Victory, became the first British servicewoman ever chosen to represent Great Britain in international track competition, after she won all five of her events at the interservice championships in Uxbridge.

Peter Johnson of Worcester, Mass., proclaimed by the Ratzeburg Rowing Club crew as "the best lightweight sculler of the world" after his recent successful German tour, won the senior 145-pound title at the Canadian Henley Regatta for the fourth year in a row.

Mike Barry, 8, a member of the Bakersfield, Calif. Aqua Aces, won five gold medals in AAU age-group competition at the Bakersfield Swimming Championships. He placed first at 25 yards in freestyle, butterfly, back-and breast-strokes and anchored a sprint relay team.

Richard Riesner, 20, could claim to be the best golfer in Pueblo, Colo. for the second year in a row when he again won the 90-hole City Championship on the City Park course with rounds of 67, 68, 67,73, and 69 for a 344, 16-under on the par-72 course.

Marcelyn Louie of San Francisco added two more national 12-years-and-under tennis titles to the five she already holds, with wins in singles and doubles of the National Boys and Girls Tournament in Chattanooga. In the singles final she upset first-seeded Karin Benson.

Gene Blex of Midkiff, Tex. pitched two consecutive no-hitters in Pony League play. After working all day on a nearby ranch in 100° heat he struck out 12 batters for a 4-1 win, and in his next game five days later he got 13 strikeouts in a 10-0 victory.
