FACES IN THE CROWD

Cindy Ives, 13, won three titles at the Portland (Me.) Country Club junior tennis tournament. With Lin Chapman she took the 14-and-under doubles. Playing five matches in two days, she took the 16-and-under singles and, with Priscilla Pierce, the doubles.

Dean Brooks, 16, of West Des Moines took up trapshooting only 13 months ago, but in the handicap event at Lake of the Ozarks, Mo. he defeated 126 of the Midwest's top shooters with 195 of 200 targets, then beat Jerry Kramer of Tulsa 24-22 in a 25-bird shootoff.

Suzanne Gibbons, 15, trained on outdated boards in Fort Pierce, Fla. for 10 months, but nonetheless placed first in the one-meter dive and second in the three-meter event in the 15-17 age-group competition at the Florida AAU Junior Olympics championships in Brandon.

Casper Rigamer of New Orleans set four U.S. fly-casting records in winning the American Casting Association tournament. His marks were in the 30-gram distance spinning, the ‚Öú-ounce official distance, the ‚Öù-ounce skish bait distance and the skish all-accuracy events.

Margaret Howard, a Winston-Salem, N.C. swimming coach, scored her third hole-in-one in the past five years when she sank a nine-iron shot on a 130-yard hole during an interclub tournament at the Hillcrest Golf Course. All three aces were scored on the same course.

Ken Irvin of Williamsburg, Ohio, pitched his 11th consecutive victory—a 17-4 win over the Ludlow Food Shops team of Ludlow, Ky.—to lead the Wilson Freighters to the Cincinnati Class C Municipal Championship. The Freighters lost only once in 37 games.
