FACES IN THE CROWD

Willard McConnell, 61, a Wilmington, Del. bank executive, took the Delaware Senior Golf Tournament for the third time after winning an 18-hole playoff against Willard Dickerson, with whom he was tied at the end of the regulation 36 holes.

Richie Stephens, of the Pomona (Calif.) Bombers, pitched three of his team's five winning games, allowing only one run and 10 hits in 23 innings, as he led the Bombers to the International Softball Congress World Championship in Rock Island, Ill.

Joan Hoffman, 12, a Quakertown, Pa., sprinter who has been defeated only once in two years, was a triple winner at the Palmer Township A.A. Track Meet in Easton, Pa. She took the 50-, 100- and 220-yard dashes in 6.8, 12.8 and 29.1 seconds, respectively.

Sandy Adelman of San Antonio, Texas high school golf champion, won the state junior tourney over Terry Jastrow of Midland. Adelman finished six strokes under par for 31 holes in the deciding match and he three-putted only two greens during the tournament.

Michelle Des Lauriers attended the Rockford (Ill.) City Tennis Tournament as a spectator but was persuaded by an official to fill a vacancy in the 18-and-under division. After borrowing tennis shoes and a racket, she won every match, taking the final 6-3, 7-5.

Duncan Scott of Mesa, Ariz., entered nine 11-12 age group swimming events at the Far West Meet in Los Altos, Calif., and not only won eight but set national marks in each. In the ninth, the 50-meter breaststroke, he bettered the record but finished second.
