Maryann Courtois celebrated her eighth birthday by placing first in the individual medley, backstroke, freestyle and butterfly events in a dual meet for the Pleasant Hill (Calif.) Swim Club and was named the club's top competitor in her age group.

Craig Coltharp, representing the Corinthian Sailing Club of Dallas, won the White Rock Lake Tournament of Champions in Dallas, a three-race series in which each entrant sailed a Lido 14, a C Scow and a Snipe. Craig, who is 16, took two firsts and a third.

Aileen Ross, a 16-year-old schoolgirl from Gartocharn in Dumbartonshire, Scotland, rode her mare, Topaz III, to the National Daily Express Foxhunter Championship at the Horse of the Year show in Wembley, London, in a field of 30 competitors.

Ed Buzzell, Ottawa (Kansas) University quarterback, threw eight touchdown passes in an 82-0 win over Sterling College to break the NAIA single-game record of seven, set by George Bork of Northern Illinois in 1963. His season total after three games is 17.

Linda Craddick of San Francisco took first place in the Women's Open competition at the Lake Mead National Water Ski speed championships, covering the six-lap 24-mile course at speeds up to 70 mph. Her mother, Alice, took the Veteran Women's title.

Bill Simoni pitched 64 innings for the Stockton (Calif.) Teamsters in the American Softball Association's North Pacific regional tournament, giving up only 20 hits and two earned runs and striking out 100 batters for a record of five wins, two losses.
