Tom Schram is an 8-year-old who swims for the Mountain View Dolphins near Santa Clara, Calif. He won 19 of 20 races during the season, entered three events at the Golden Gate League championships in San Francisco and managed to win them all.
Martin Bohen, 24, a former Southern Cal golfer, was low amateur in the Nevada Open at Las Vegas in June a year ago. Five months later he relinquished his amateur status and last week won the same tournament as a professional with a four-under-par 212.
Sharan Bell, 15, a blonde from Lubbock, Tex., was the Monterey High School's entire team at the state girl's track meet in Waco, Tex. She placed in three events, broke the state 80-meter low-hurdle mark, tied the 100-yard mark and was fourth in team standings.
Cliff Montgomery, a freshman tennis player at Rollins College in Winter Park, Fla., scored his 25th consecutive win to finish the season undefeated when he beat Miami's David Tate 4-6, 6-3, 6-3. Montgomery also won the Florida Intercollegiate title in his division.
Hal Theis, a senior at Wittenberg University in Springfield, Ohio, pitched six straight victories, broke two Ohio Conference hurling marks and gave up only one earned run in 55 innings, for baseball's best ERA (0.16) in the nation over the past eight years.
Jim Dietz, 17, of The Bronx, N.Y. won four sculling titles in two days. First he took the singles and doubles in the Canadian secondary schools rowing championships, then won the junior heavyweight and junior 2,000-meter singles at Hunter's Island, N.Y.
