Sheila Scott, 38, a former actress, flew a single-engine Piper to a round-the-world women's record, averaging 36 mph (including ground time) on her 28,656-mile flight, the first Briton to circle the globe solo. American Jerry Mock held old mark of 32.77.

Ricky Pullano, 9, stepped up to make his first Little League pitching start for the Atlanta Braves in Skokie, Ill. and struck out all 15 batters he faced in a game that was called after five innings, winning 12-0 over the previously unbeaten Chicago White Sox.

Erik Van Dillen 15, of San Mateo, Calif. could not compete in his own age bracket at the Tennis Internationals in Berkeley, Calif. because of school exams. Exams over, he moved up to the 18-year-old division and defeated Seattle's Dick Knight for the title.

Walt Zembriski, a 31-year-old steelworker from Park Ridge, N.J. who had been eliminated in the first round of the New Jersey amateur golf tournament for the past two years, beat Andy Kunsaw of Preakness Valley, N.J. 9 and 8, to take the 1966 championship.

Tom Javins, a 12-year-old South Charleston, W.Va. boy who began swimming only three years ago, broke the AAU age-group record for the short-course 100-meter breaststroke by 1.1 seconds when he swam a 1:18.8 at the Greater Charleston meet.

Kevin Kerrigan, a Ridgefield, Conn. football player, entered his first track competition this season—running the 100- and 220-yard dashes, anchoring the 880 relay and hurling discus and shot—and scored 17 firsts, five seconds to earn 100 of his team's 173½ points.
