Kathy Killian, 14, of Fairfield, Conn., who first picked up a rifle three years ago, out-shot a field of 61 to win the Fairfield PAL outdoor small-bore prone rifle championship. She missed just five marks of 60 from 50 yards, 50 meters and 100 yards.
Jerry Gramly, 24, reinstated as an amateur after two years of minor league baseball, pitched the Hillside Redbirds of Dallas to the national Stan Musial championship in Battle Creek, Mich., with a 7-2 victory over the Cheney Studs of Seattle.
Susy Raganelli, 20, of Italy, was the only woman among 42 competitors, the daughter of a millionaire to boot. But she beat the men in all three of her heats to win the world go-kart championship in Copenhagen going away. Defender Guido Sala finished ninth.
Arden Payer, 16, 16-foot-2, 180-pound Westphalia (Kans.) High School fullback, scored six touchdowns from scrimmage on runs of 10, 10, 12, 5, 25 and 15 yards, added another on a 72-yard kickoff return to help Westphalia defeat Kincaid by 60-14.
Carol Hofmann, 23, of North Branch, N.J., a U.S. Equestrian Team member, scored a rare double when she won the open jumper (aboard aged gelding San Pedro) and green jumper (on 7-year-old gelding Salem) championships at Holiday Farm in New Jersey.
Hobart Wrobbel, 63, of Miami, won the National Senior 60 Clay Courts Tennis Championship at Virginia Beach, Va., defeating Monte Ganger of Cleveland 4-6, 6-3, 9-7. Later he teamed with Ganger to win the doubles from Dave Freeborn and Wyn Morris.
