FACES IN THE CROWD

Solomon Gomez, 18, of Bathurst, Gambia, set a record for the New England Preparatory Schools Soccer League by scoring 30 goals in 13 games while leading Suffield (Conn.) Academy to a 10-3 record. In one game Gomez scored five of Suffield's eight points.

Timmy Reese, 8, Set the Nazareth (Pa.) YMCA's midget-class rope-climbing record with a time of 8 seconds up a 15-foot rope. In his first track competition, Timmy won the Nine-and-Under 880-yard run in an AAU meet in Easton, Pa. with a time of 3:10.

Don Patchell, 26, a Portland, Me. mechanic, rolled a 1395 for 10 strings to win the New England Candle pin Bowling Singles Championship in Boston. He also rolled a 672 for five strings to share the doubles title with Don Saucier of Lewiston, Me., who bowled a 674.

Mike Achong, 17, a halfback who missed most of the season with a broken ankle, returned for St. Louis (Honolulu) High's final game. He averaged 20.3 yards for nine carries, scored three TDs as his team won the Honolulu Interscholastic League championship 21-0.

Albert Zazueta, 14, led his Wakefield Junior High School team to the Tucson (Ariz.) City Junior High Cross-country Championship with a course record time of 5:33 for the mile-and-one-sixth distance. Previously he ran a four-mile 197-yard course in 25:8.

Jeff Borowiak, 17, of Lafayette, Calif., beat Terry Neudecker, 6-3, 6-4, to win the National Junior Indoor Tennis Championship in St. Louis. Later, with Mike Estep of Dallas, Jeff also gained the doubles title, beating Mark Conti and John Hainline 8-6, 7-5.
