FACES IN THE CROWD

Ricky McCormick, a 4-foot-11, 95-pound ninth-grader from Independence, Mo., scored a world-record 4,569 points when he won the tricks event at the Group I Water Ski Championships in Cuernavaca, Mexico. Ricky has won four tricks titles since July.

Derrill Hottel, 33, of Plainfield, Ind. took his third straight Jenkins Brothers All-'Round shooting championship in Orleans, Ind. when he hit 119 of 124 targets, missing only one 16-yard, one 25-yard and one doubles clay target and two birds.

Delbert Scharffenberg, 21, a senior at La Sierra College in California, won the Mt. Baldy Far West Hill Climb Championships while riding for the Riverside Bicycle Club. He was timed in 29:59 for the climb of 2,500 feet over four and a half miles.

Margo (Taffy) Pergament, a freshman at New York University who has been skating 13 years, won the Senior Ladies event in the North Atlantic Figure Skating Championships at Lake Placid, N.Y. Taffy received four first-place votes out of a possible five.

Debbie Trubela, 12, a seventh-grader at Meyers High School in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., who has gained 20 trophies and 28 medals or ribbons in distance-running competitions in the past year, recently won a two-mile and a six-tenths-of-a-mile race on the same weekend.

Dr. W. H. McCall of Asheville, N.C. won first prize in the All-Age Stake with Vaga, one of his pointers, at the Carolina Amateur Field Trial Club's trials in Hoffman, N.C. The judges said Vaga covered the ground well, had one covey find and perfect bird work.
