Mickey Cureton, a fullback at Centennial High in Compton, Calif., broke all of the California Interscholastic Federation's rushing records in his three years of play, including Glenn Davis' season mark, with 2,504 yards, and points in a single game, with 40.

Jonah Barrington, 25, of Cornwall, England, who practices squash racquets four hours each day, thus earning the nickname Madman, became the first English amateur to win the British Open in 28 years when he defeated Aftab Jawaid of Pakistan in London.

Kenneth Peters, 58, of Fort Wayne, Ind., who has been training cutting horses for 15 years, scored his first major victory with Rey Jay's Pete, ridden by Buster Welch of Amarillo, Texas, in the fifth National Cutting Horse Association Futurity in Dallas.

Norma Heath, the 17-year-old captain of the girls' field hockey team at Lyndon Institute in Lyndon Center, Vt., who also competes in basketball, softball and track, scored 18 goals and had three assists while leading her team to a 16-2-1 record in two years.

Tom Clements, 13, a forward for St. Malachy in Kennedy Township, Pa., averaged 25 points in five games to lead his team to victory in the St. Mary's Holiday Grade School Basketball Tournament in Pittsburgh. In the finals he scored 28 points.

Dave Volk, 53, a Baltimore taxicab driver who has won every major duckpin bowling championship, earned $2,625 in six events in 1966 to become the leading money winner and the BPAA Duckpin Professional Bowlers Association's bowler of the year.
