Mary Boeke, a senior at Hubbard (Iowa) High who has scored 799 points in 19 games, led her girls' basketball team—undefeated and ranked No. 1 in the state—to the Iowa River Valley Conference title. She hit on 75% of her free throws and 65% of her field goals.

Elizabeth Pickworth, 15, of Buckinghamshire, England, who became interested in judo just 18 months ago, was graded to black belt first Dan after defeating six senior-grade girls, thus becoming only the second girl in Britain to attain the award at her age.

Dianne Holum, 15, of Northbrook, Ill., was named to compete in this month's world speed-skating championships after winning the junior 1,000-meter race in Flint, Mich. and taking all three junior events at the North American championships in West Allis, Wis.

Larry Fortin, 18, of Hallowell, Me., drove a team of seven black-and-White Walker hounds to victory in both of the 10-mile runs and gained the overall championship in the Class A seniors division of the New England Sled Dog race in Augusta, Me.

Sandy Bednarek, a seventh-grader from St. Louis who has been bowling for two and a half years, shot an unimpressive 109, a 128 and then, in her third game, rolled 11 consecutive strikes to score a 297 during junior-league competition in Florissant, Mo.

Johnnie Sanders, 30, a mechanic from Irving, Texas, gained National Outboard Association's High Point Award in pleasure-boating for the second straight year. He scored a total of 21,454 points to beat runner-up William Flagg of Dallas by 6,940 points.
