Tom Poor, 23, a mathematics teacher at Episcopal Academy in Merion, Pa., won every game against four opponents to take the singles championship at the 25th annual Apawamis Club squash racquets tournament in Rye, N.Y. He also shared the doubles title.
Debbie Meyer, 14, a freshman at Rio Americano High School in Sacramento, broke her second world swimming record with a 17:48.6 clocking for the 1,650-yard freestyle event at a meet in Sacramento. Last summer she set a 1,500-meter freestyle mark.
Joe Peyton, 30, after almost nine years with the Army, now is a senior at the University of Puget Sound, Washington, where he has been Little All-America in football and a regular in both basketball and track. He will have won 11 letters when he graduates in June.
Dick Stearns, 39, of Northfield, Ill., sailed his Glider VI to two firsts, a second, a third and a sixth as he scored 127 points and gained the Bacardi Cup in Miami. Stearns, a silver medalist in the 1964 Olympics, defeated 26 Star class sailors for the cup.
Connie Kalitta, 29, of Mount Clemens, Mich., cruised at 218.43 mph to beat Gene Goleman of Tulsa in the American Hot Rod Association's Winternational Drag Racing Championships in Pomona, Calif. It was Kalitta's second major victory in one week.
Mike Passarella, 20, of Chicago, gained the men's senior title at the National Outdoor Speed Skating Championships in St. Paul as he set a U.S. record for the three-quarter mile, won the 880-yard race, scored in four of seven races and totaled 14 points.
