FACES IN THE CROWD

Amy Edwards, 10, a fifth-grade student at Aurora Gardens Academy in New Orleans, set a family rope-jumping record and—who knows—maybe a world record with a run of 2,676 uninterrupted skips, easily beating the 450 skips recorded by her brother Lamar, 12.

Jerry Reese, 29, of Hallock, Minn., won the second annual Winnipeg-to-St. Paul Great 500 Snowmobile Race with a record-breaking time of 13:29.25. Reese almost was eliminated from the race at Ada, Minn. when he fell from his craft and tore ligaments in one ankle.

Cathy Dyak, 38, of Manchester, Conn., won the U.S. Women's Duckpin Bowling title by four pins as she rolled a 10-game pintail of 1,317 to beat Patricia Rinaldi of Rockville, Md. in the tournament in Baltimore. Mrs. Dyak rolled five-game blocks of 657 and 660.

Bill Brooks, 17, the 127-pound captain of the Greenwich (Conn.) High School wrestling team, owns a 36-1-1 record in varsity competition. He won state titles in his sophomore and junior years and during the past two seasons has never been taken down by an opponent.

Stephanie Grant, 16, of Beverly Hills, Calif., upset the top three seeds to win the Women's Singles title at the Los Angeles Metropolitan Tennis Tournament. With her partner, Tom Leonard of Arcadia, Stephanie also gained the mixed-doubles championship.

Gene Phillips, 18, a 6'4" senior at Jesse H. Jones High School in Houston, set a city record by scoring 81 points in a 133-70 victory over Madison High. Phillips was All-State as a junior and has averaged more than 20 points in 105 high school basketball games.
