FACES IN THE CROWD

Larry Hinson of East Tennessee State, who averaged 71.3 for 20 rounds of golf in regular-season play, beat Johnny Barlow of Lamar Tech by three strokes for the NCAA College Division Championship in Paducah, Ky. with an eight-under-par 276.

Preston Carrington, 17, an all-state guard in basketball for Topeka (Kans.) High, took to track at the Junior Olympics in Lawrence and set a national age-group record in the high jump (6'7½") as well as two state marks: the 120-yard high and 180-yard low hurdles.

Maureen Bechdolt, 14, the U.S. Junior Girls' Archery Champion from Loveland, Ohio, became the youngest shooter ever to win a position on the national team, when she scored third highest in the women's division at the U.S. tryouts in St. Louis.

Dave Jacobs, a University of Michigan sophomore, followed teammate Wayne Miller—who in 1966 was the first trampoline artist to take every major title of the year—when he won the world championship in London to complete a sweep of the six coveted awards.

Russ Del Cotto, of the Middletown (N.Y.) High tennis team, completed his fourth year on the varsity squad with a won-lost record of 95-0 (including 55 singles matches and 40 doubles) as he paced the Middies to their fifth straight DUSO League championship.

Dominic Piscitelli, 40, of North Haven, Conn. gained overall honors at the Canadian Skeet Championships in St. Janvier, Quebec, Can. His wife Arlene took the ladies' title, and his son Kevin, 3, won attention by blasting a few shots on Dad's 12-gauge shotgun.
